St. Anne's Convent Kushtagi

It was the long cherished desire of the province to start an evangelical community in North Karnataka in a remote village. As providence of God, Rev. Dr. Joseph D’Silva, The bishop of Bellary requested us to open a house at Kushtagi. Hence Sr. Helen Mary, the then Provincial along with her councillors visited Kushtagi on 14th January 2002 at the invitation of the parish priest Fr. Irudayaraj. It was with hesitation that the procedures went on as the sisters had to work in the parish school under the guidance of the parish priest. The repeated contact of the parish priest Fr. Irudayaraj and Vicar General Fr. Innaiah we heeded in taking up this project. An official invitation by the Bishop was sent on 6th November 2001 to the Provincial and to the Superior General. Since the procedures for Provincial Chapter started, the whole process got delayed. Sr. Shanthi the new Provincial and her team met these two priests and the Bishop on 22nd May 2002 and discussed the terms and condition to start a community at Kushtagi.
After this process, the parish priest repaired the house which was allotted for the stay of the teachers. We took up this project on experimental basis for a year. The pioneers of this community were: Sr. Treasa Paul (Superior), Sr. Mechtilde and Sr. Sumathi. A little later, Sr. Kanika Mary joined the community after her TCH training. The new convent was constructed by the province and inaugurated on 21st July 2005. The bishop of Bellary Dr. Joseph D’Silva blessed and inaugurated the new house.  Year after year, our sisters continue to do the work of evangelization in the school as well as through family visits and church activities.
