St. Anne's Convent Pushpagiri

St. Anne's Convent Pushpagiri

Pushpagiri is a village about 7 km from N.R. Mohalla, Mysore and is the sub- station of the Cathedral Parish. In 1984, the most Rev. Mathias Fernandes, the then Bishop of Mysore, along with Rev. Fr. Gregorious Madapally, the then Parish Priest of the Cathedral Church, Mysore, invited our sisters to start a new foundation at Pushpagiri, Belvathagrama, in 1984. The purpose was to take care of the existing Kannada Primary School, belonging to the parish and to help in the parish activities. Obliging to this request, Sr. Punitha was appointed as the Headmistress of the school. She had to travel daily from Mysore to Pushpagiri for 6 months as the residence for the sisters was not ready. Late  Fr. Gregorious Madapilly, the  parish priest of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Mysore, built a small house in the village for the sisters and it was blessed by the bishop on 25th November 1984.

Sr. Leonie was the first superior and Sr. Thomas and Sr. Punitha were the pioneers of this community. In 1985 Sr. Leonie was transferred and Sr. Imelda became the superior. Srs. Lucy Mary and Saleth Mary joined the teaching staff. A convent building was constructed when Sr. Lydia was the the superior. The new convent was blessed by Bishop of Mysore Dr. Francis Michaelappa. The able guidance and timely help of Fr. Gregorius enabled the sisters to get their teaching post approved by the government. The sisters are actively engaged in teaching and social work and parish works.
