St. Anne's Convent Sira

St. Anne's Convent Sira

It is at the behest of the then Archbishop of Bangalore, Rt. Rev. Arokiasamy and the then parish priest Fr. Terrence Franz that we started a community at Sira.  Sr. Agnes (Superior), along with Srs. Roseline, Rosy I and Rosy P. were sent to Sira on 4th June 1977. They soon attracted the attention of the population most of which were Muslims. There were only a handful of Catholics.
The convent was opened in the upstairs of a rented building. Thanks to Sri. Mylariah, a Munsiff of Sira, who lived on the ground floor granting security to the sisters. Later on 18th April 1980, the newly built convent was blessed and opened by his Grace, Achbishop Arokiasamy. The English medium school was running at the beginning in a temporary shed. Later, a building with sufficient accommodation was constructed on a land adjacent to the Church. The life of the sisters here was  hard, especially due to the water scarcity. After the classes, the sisters used to go with pots to a distance of 2-3 kms to fetch water. Thanks to our benefactor, we opened a bore well and solved the water problem. The construction of St. Anne’s new school building here was started on 5th June 1984. The school began to flourish and there was a great demand from the public to upgrade the primary into high school. So, on 3rd June 1985 the High School began to function with the necessary permission from the government. Sr. Benigna was its first Principal. The Providence of the Lord was with us. Thank God, now we have a new convent building and a flourishing High School and PUC under the name of St. Anne.
