St. Anne's Convent Gulbarga (Aland)

A long cherished plan to start a mission in Gulbarga was fulfilled on 21st September when a rented building was blessed and Holy Eucharist was celebrated for our sisters to begin a mission in the above diocese.

The Bishop of Gulbarga had been asking us to start a community for mission in his diocese since its inception. In 2016 the Provincial team had visited the diocese and the Bishop had taken them to different centers to see their work. The Bishop had in his mind that we take up the mission area at Aland where there is no Christian presence.

After making a number of visits and studying of the area, Provincial asked the Bishop to find a house for the sisters to stay and begin the mission. Rev. Fr. Anil Prasad the Parish Priest, who was placed there for the Mission service, found a house for rent and was given to the sisters. This building was blessed by the Bishop of Gulbarga Most Rev. Robert Miranda, on 21st the feast of St. Mathew and Holy Eucharist was celebrated and Blessed Sacrament was installed. There were 5 priests including the V.G. Rev. Fr, Stanislus, Rev. Fr. Santhosh, Fr. Anil Prasad the Parish Priest, Fr. Vincent and a Deacon and two sisters from the Charity Sisters to participate in this celebration along with the Provincial Sr. Arulmary, Asst. Provincial Sr. Alphonse and Sr. Josena the Co-ordinator for SMP. The pioneers of this mission are Sr. Lourdu Konda Superior and Srs. Susheela and Lalitha.

After the blessing and the Holy Eucharist there was a short felicitation to the Bishop and the important persons and a love meal shared by all. The Provincial and the Councilors left by evening after installing the Superior and being with them some time. At present Sisters will visit the families and study the need of the locality in the initial stage and then to decide how to go about the mission.
