St. Anne's Convent Kolar

Mr. Parameshwaraiah, the former Deputy Commissioner of Kolar invited us to take up the Kannada Nursery School that was run by the Mahila Samaj of Kolar, as it was not functioning properly. Obliging to his request, the then Superior General Mother Presentation sent Sr. Euphrasie as Superior and Headmistress and Srs. Emilie and Sr. Sacred Heart as her assistant in June 1974. They were housed in a rented building. The school prospered well. In June 1976, Sr. Mercy took up this project and saw to it that it made a rapid progress. She even started a school of our own in both Kannada and English medium nearer to our convent with the kind co-operation of Fr. Sebastian MSFS, the then parish priest of Kolar. Initially, the new English medium Nursery school was started in St. Mary’s Parish hall. Later it was shifted to our own building.
The public was impressed with the services of our sisters and they requested that we open a high school for the benefit of their children. A plot of land was purchased near Water works.  The school building was put up in the year 1984 by Sr. Mercy the superior who was encouraged and supported by Fr. Thomas Illikattil MSFS, the then parish priest of Kolar. St. Anne’s High Schools both in English and Kannada medium started functioning in the new building. Sr. Marina was its first Headmistress. The sisters had to reside in the school-rooms with minimum conveniences and facility. In 1985, a piece of land was purchased very near to the main road in front of the school building. In 1987, a new primary school building was constructed in PC Extension (Pete Chamanahalli), Kolar with more rooms and better convenience. In the same year the foundation was laid for the construction of the convent near waterworks, Kolar Town. The newly constructed Chapel and convent were blessed by Rt. Rev. Joseph D’Silva, the then Administrator of the Archdiocese of Bangalore on 19th October 1990. Thanks to the efforts of Srs. Mercy and Melani, for their yeomen services. Presently the school has also PUC which cater to the needs of the students.
