St. Anne's Convent Marianpet

Two senior priests of the Archdiocese of Bangalore purchased a plot of land, measuring 5.5 acres. It was registered in the name of Fr. George Theckneth, a missionary. He was then staying in Marianpet in a small house with a servant in the same property for many years. He made a ‘Will’ that this property should be given for a charitable purpose. Fr. I. Chinnappa was given the power of attorney to execute that ‘Will.’
After the death of Fr. George Theckneth in 1988, Fr. Chinnppa decided to give away the said property to the Sisters of St. Anne, Bangalore.  All were happy with this offer as it was an effective means of evangelizing to the people living in that remotest area of the State. Thus on 3rd July 1992, the blessing of the new foundation took place. Fr. Chinnappa, along with Fr. Jose Puthiyaparambil MSFS blessed the new convent in the renovated house of Fr. George Theckneth. Sr. Tharaka (Superior), Sr. Clement and Sr. Vyakula were the pioneering members of this mission community.
St. Anne’s Nursery and Primary was started on 3rd July 1992, in a cow-shed with 7 students. The number of admissions increased and there were 39 students in the first standard. Sr. Vyakula was appointed the first Headmistress of this newly started school. Subsequently, a new school building foundation was laid on 11th August 1993 and the construction was completed by May 1994. The building was blessed on 6th June 1994. There was no transportation facility. It was in 1998, Mr. Ramesh Kumar, the Speaker, a MLA from Srinivaspur Constituency visited Marinpet and promised to make arrangements for a bus to this village from Muthackapalli.   A plan for new convent building was drawn up and the foundation stone was blessed by Bp. Ignatius Pinto on 12th May, 1998. The building work was completed and was blessed on 3rd July 2000 by Fr. Chinnappa. The toil of our sisters bore fruit and now the institution has high school.
Besides the education our sisters realized the dire need for medical facilities for the villagers. A dispensary building was constructed which was blessed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Alphonsus Mathias on 20th May 1993, the feast of Our Lady of Fathima. On 12th October Sr. Archana was posted as the staff Nurse at Marianpet. Thereafter, successively Srs. Marees, Albina, Tincy, Mini, Lourdu Konda, Loveena and Philomena Payappilly have worked in this health Centre. It was closed down in the year 2005.
St. George Boarding: In 2000, when the Marianpet community got a new house, the old house fell vacant for three years. In the year 2003, a proposal to use the old building emerged. Therefore, from 2003 May, the sisters started to recruits students for boarding. Srs. Good Counsel and Juliana were given the charge of the boarding children. Slowly the number increased to 25 and above. Till 2013, the children managed in the old house. Realizing that the house was in a depleted condition and was no longer an accommodation befitting, the Provincial Sr. Alphonse and her team planned for a new building. This building was blessed on 18th July 2014 by Rev. Fr. I Chinnappa, from Bangalore diocese. At present 12 girls are staying in the boarding under the care of Sr. Precilla.
