Prior to our presence in Tharabanahalli, we started to work in Silvepura. However, as there was no building available for convent in Silvepura to start with. One bunglow belonging to Mr. Antony Domingo was available in Tharabanahalli. So the sisters started to stay there from 1961. Sr. Antony was the first superior. From here the sisters used to walk daily 3 kms to Silvepura to cater to the education of the children of Silvepura and surrounding villages. Classes 5th, 6th and 7th were held in Tharabanahalli. The sisters who were teaching in Silvepura as well as in Tharabanahalli stayed in our convent at Tharabanahalli. In the meantime, we purchased an acre of land at Tharabanahalli and constructed a convent of our own. Sr. Anasthasia was appointed as the superior in 1983. Later, when these classes were shifted to Silvepura, the teaching sisters also moved there. For sometime, this house functioned also as a formation House. Later, the sisters took to medical apostolate to meet the health needs of the people and to visit villages in and around Tharabanahalli. On 21st June, 1994 a formal Health Centre named Nirmala Health Centre was started with a suitable building and necessary equipments and medicine. The pioneers were Sr. Immaculate, Sr. Imma and Sr. Anitha. As the number of patients began to increase, Sr. Susheela, a qualified doctor, Sr. Rosemary, a trained nurse were appointed to this centre in 1994. Later, it was realized that there was a need for the extension of the building. Thus the first floor was constructed with the financial aid from the Congregation.
It was a long cherished desire to have a separate building for the Health Centre from the community. This desire got wings on 4th January 2007 when Fr. I. Joseph, the parish priest of the Sacred Heart Church, Silvepura blessed the foundation stone. The building work was completed, blessed and inaugurated on 8th December 2007 by His Grace Bernard Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore. On 9th December 2007, the Health Centre was shifted to the new building. The building continues to function as a community as well as care unit for our ailing sisters. From January 2008, regular OPD, Laboratory, IPD and maternity sections were introduced. Presently Sr. Dr. Helen Mary renders her commendable service with the assistance of sister- nurses, which is immensely appreciated by all who visit the centre.
