St. Anne's Convent Thyagaraja Colony

Dr. Khan, a renowned member of the Mulbagal Municipal Council, requested us through Fr. I. Chinnappa, the then Parish Priest of Gokunte, to start an English Medium School at Mulbagal in Kolar District. Mr. Khan volunteered to make the old Municipal Building available for running this school. Accordingly, Sr. Louisa (Superior), Sr. Euphrasie and Sr. La Salette were sent as the pioneering band to begin this mission in 1966. They were to be housed at Gokunte, a catholic village 17 kms away from Mulbagal. The sisters were travelling everyday between Gokunte and Mulbagal although bus services were not regular. This arrangement had to be changed and the sisters rented a house at Mulbagal itself in 1967. The official permission to upgrade the Lourdu School here into a High School was granted in 1982. Though a separate convent was started at Mulbagal the sisters used to spend Saturdays and Sundays at Gokunte assisting at the Liturgical services, teaching Catechism, visiting families and conducting recitation of Rosary etc. Later, a separate convent building started here with Sr. Dorothy as the first superior. It was during the time of Sr. Christopher as superior a new convent building was put up at Mulbagal. It was blessed and opened by Archbishop Arokiaswamy on 1st December 1979. The official permission to upgrade the Lourdu’s School into a high school was granted in 1982. Later the high school was shifted to Teacher’s colony.
